The Role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer with at least 3 years of experience who takes full-cycle ownership — from writing backend logic to keeping systems healthy in production. This is a hands-on, generalist role: you will build features, manage infrastructure, support operations, and automate the repetitive. We are a lean team where wearing multiple hats is a feature, not a bug — if you take pride in solving whatever problem is in front of you, you will thrive here.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Development

• Design and implement backend features for Zyllem's enterprise SaaS platform using C# and .NET Core
• Work with MongoDB and other data stores to build efficient, correct, and maintainable data layers
• Contribute to systems with complex business logic: state machines, event-driven workflows, and multi-step distributed operations
• Proactively own your work end-to-end — take initiative, drive technical decisions, and contribute to architecture discussions and code reviews

Infrastructure & Cloud

• Support and maintain cloud infrastructure across Azure and AWS, with growing involvement in GCP
• Contribute to Zyllem's infrastructure evolution as our cloud strategy develops
• Work with CI/CD pipelines with a full understanding of the path from code commit to production
• Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to automate provisioning and configuration

Operations & Automation

• Respond to operational requests from the business — data queries, ad-hoc reports, and investigative deep-dives into production data
• Identify recurring operational tasks and turn them into automated solutions, eliminating toil over time
• Monitor system health, investigate anomalies, and own the resolution end-to-end
• Build internal tooling and scripts that make the team — and the business — more self-sufficient

AI-Augmented Engineering

• Use AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) as part of your daily workflow
• Apply AI for code generation, debugging, test writing, and research — as a genuine productivity multiplier
• Share effective AI-assisted patterns with the team and continuously raise the bar on how the team works with AI

Requirements

Must Have

• Minimum 3 years of professional backend development experience
• Strong backend fundamentals (REST APIs, data modelling, concurrency, error handling, system design) in any language — our stack is C# / .NET Core, but we care more about your engineering ability than the language on your resume; we expect you to use AI tools to get up to speed
• Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider — Azure and/or GCP preferred, AWS also welcome; knowing more than one is a strong plus
• Active use of AI tools in your development workflow — not optional; we will ask about this
• Strong English communication skills for a fully remote team
• Self-disciplined in a work-from-home setup — keeps a reliable schedule, communicates progress and blockers without being chased, and delivers consistently

Good to Have

• Familiarity with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases — willingness to learn matters more than prior experience
• Exposure to GCP services (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, GKE, Cloud Storage, BigQuery)
• Understanding of microservices architecture and event-driven patterns
• Familiarity with Docker and/or Kubernetes
• Experience with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar)
• Competitive programming background or experience with algorithm-heavy problems
• Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira
