About the Company

PT Bali Cahaya Makmur (BCM), trading as Markov Architecture, is establishing a multidisciplinary Architecture and Engineering Department in Bali to deliver coordinated, technically accurate and construction-ready design documentation.

We are seeking a Senior Plumbing & Drainage Engineer who can independently calculate, design and document complete plumbing and drainage systems. The position reports to the Head of Architecture and works closely with the Senior Project Architect, Structural Engineer, Electrical Engineer, HVAC Engineer, Site Development Engineer and construction teams.

Key Responsibilities

Water-Supply and Hot-Water Systems

• Design complete cold-water supply and distribution systems.

• Design hot-water generation, storage, circulation and distribution systems.

• Calculate water demand, diversity, flow rates, operating pressures and storage requirements.

• Perform hydraulic calculations and determine pipe sizes.

• Develop pressure-zoning and pressure-reduction arrangements.

• Design water tanks, reservoirs, transfer systems and booster-pump systems.

• Coordinate municipal water, groundwater, bore-well and other available water sources.

• Incorporate backflow prevention, metering, contamination protection and water-conservation measures.

• Coordinate filtration, softening, disinfection and other water-treatment equipment where required.

Sanitary Drainage and Wastewater

• Design complete soil, waste, sanitary drainage and vent systems.

• Calculate drainage loads and determine pipe sizes, gradients and venting requirements.

• Design greywater and blackwater collection systems.

• Develop the building wastewater strategy and coordinate septic tanks, sewage-treatment plants and specialist treatment equipment.

• Design greywater collection and reuse systems where required.

• Design grease traps and commercial-kitchen wastewater connections where applicable.

• Coordinate wastewater discharge, infiltration and connections to external infrastructure.

• Provide suitable access for inspection, cleaning and maintenance.

Stormwater and Surface Water

• Design roof-drainage and rainwater systems.

• Calculate rainfall runoff, outlet capacity, gutters, downpipes and drainage-pipe sizes.

• Coordinate surface-water collection and discharge with site-development works.

• Design rainwater storage and reuse systems where required.

• Coordinate infiltration, detention, overflow and final discharge arrangements.

• Consider site levels, rainfall conditions, flood risk and available discharge points.

Equipment and Materials

• Select pumps, tanks, water heaters, filtration equipment, valves, fixtures and other system components.

• Review pump curves, duty points, system resistance, operating conditions and redundancy requirements.

• Select pipe materials based on pressure, temperature, water quality, corrosion resistance, installation conditions, noise and service life.

• Prepare equipment schedules and technical specifications.

• Coordinate power supplies, controls, alarms and monitoring requirements with the Electrical Engineer.

Technical Documentation

• Prepare design criteria, design-basis information and calculation reports.

• Produce coordinated plans, sections, schematics, riser diagrams and construction details.

• Prepare pipe, valve, fixture and equipment schedules.

• Prepare technical specifications and quantity information for BOQ development.

• Clearly identify pipe sizes, gradients, flow directions, levels, equipment duties and installation requirements.

• Maintain consistency between calculations, drawings, schedules and specifications.

Coordination and Construction Support

• Coordinate plumbing and drainage systems with architecture, structure, electrical, HVAC, landscape, swimming-pool systems and external utilities.

• Coordinate shafts, risers, sleeves, penetrations, underground routes, ceiling spaces and plant rooms.

• Ensure suitable installation, operation, maintenance and equipment-replacement access.

• Coordinate HVAC condensate drainage and irrigation-water connections.

• Apply working knowledge of typical swimming-pool circulation, filtration, balancing-tank, overflow and plant-room requirements.

• Participate in technical coordination meetings and resolve design conflicts.

• Review contractor shop drawings, material submissions, equipment selections and proposed substitutions.

• Respond to RFIs and resolve technical issues during construction.

• Conduct site inspections when required.

• Review testing, flushing, disinfection and commissioning results.

• Support the review of as-built drawings, operation manuals and handover documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Civil Engineering or another directly relevant discipline.

• Minimum 5 years of directly relevant plumbing and drainage design experience.

• Relevant higher education completed outside Indonesia or substantial and verifiable professional experience working overseas.

• Candidates whose education and professional experience are both exclusively within Indonesia do not meet the required profile.

• Strong written and spoken English.

• Fluent Bahasa Indonesia.

• Advanced AutoCAD ability.

• Proven ability to independently perform hydraulic calculations and size complete plumbing and drainage systems.

• Strong technical knowledge of water supply, hot water, sanitary drainage, venting, stormwater, water storage, pumps and wastewater systems.

• Working knowledge of typical swimming-pool hydraulic and plant-room systems.

• Ability to select suitable equipment and prepare accurate schedules and technical specifications.

• Strong understanding of installation, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance requirements.

• Ability to produce coordinated and construction-ready calculations, drawings, details, schedules and specifications.

• Strong multidisciplinary coordination and technical problem-solving ability.

• Working knowledge of SNI 8153:2015, SNI 2398:2017, applicable Indonesian wastewater, water-quality and drainage requirements, and at least one recognised international plumbing framework.

• Eligibility and willingness to obtain the relevant Indonesian SKK Konstruksi if required.

• Proven track record supported by named projects, redacted calculations, schematics, drawings, specifications, a clear explanation of personal responsibilities and verifiable professional references.

Strong Advantage

• Seven or more years of directly relevant plumbing and drainage design experience.

• Experience with international villas, resorts, hotels, residential developments or commercial buildings.

• Revit MEP or other BIM experience.

• BIM coordination and clash-detection experience.

• Experience with water treatment, greywater reuse, commercial kitchens, spas or other specialist hospitality systems.

• Valid SKK Konstruksi in Plumbing and Mechanical Pumps, preferably Jenjang 7 or higher.

• Membership of Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia.

• Ir. professional qualification or valid STRI.

• Experience working within a multidisciplinary international consultancy.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for an engineer who takes responsibility for the technical accuracy and completeness of their work. The successful candidate must be able to explain the basis of their calculations, defend their design decisions and identify coordination or installation problems before they affect construction.

Candidates who primarily work as CAD operators, depend on another engineer to perform calculations or cannot prove which systems they personally designed will not be considered suitable.
