About the role
The Harvesting Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling all sugarcane harvesting activities across the plantation to ensure that cane is harvested at the optimum maturity, delivered to the sugar mill in the required quantity and quality, and achieved within approved cost, productivity, safety, and operational targets. The position manages the complete harvesting operation, including harvest planning, field preparation, harvesting execution, cane loading, in-field handling, transportation coordination, equipment utilization, labor and contractor management, and daily monitoring of cane delivery to the mill.
Key responsibilities
Develop annual, monthly, weekly, and daily sugarcane harvesting plans based on crop maturity, expected yield, field conditions, mill capacity, and production targets
Coordinate harvesting schedules with Plantation, Agronomy, Transport, Engineering, and Sugar Mill teams
Direct and supervise daily harvesting operations across assigned plantation areas
Manage mechanized and/or manual harvesting operations depending on plantation requirements
Ensure proper cutting height, topping, trash management, loading, and cane handling practices
Plan and optimize the deployment of harvesters, loaders, tractors, trailers, trucks, and other harvesting equipment
Monitor equipment utilization, operating hours, productivity, fuel consumption, and downtime
Coordinate the movement of harvested cane from field to sugar mill and develop efficient cane transportation plans
Establish and monitor key harvesting productivity targets including tons harvested per day, tons per machine hour, fuel consumption per ton, and harvesting cost per ton
Manage harvesting team and field labor to ensure them complying with plantation operating standards and safety procedures
Work closely with Agronomy and Mill teams to ensure cane is harvested at optimum maturity and monitor cane quality indicators
Ensure all harvesting activities comply with company safety policies and applicable laws and regulations
Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal harvesting performance reports and analyze performance against budget and operational targets
About you
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Plantation Management, or a related discipline
Minimum 8–10 years of experience in plantation or agricultural operations
Minimum 3–5 years in a managerial/supervisory role, preferably in sugarcane harvesting
Strong experience in mechanized harvesting operations is highly preferred
Experience managing large-scale plantation operations, contractors, heavy equipment, and agricultural logistics is advantageous
Experience coordinating cane supply with a sugar mill is highly desirable
Technical competencies in sugarcane production and harvesting practices, mechanized harvesting systems, agricultural machinery and equipment, cane transportation and logistics, plantation field planning, production and cost analysis, equipment utilization and maintenance coordination, contractor management, occupational health and safety, budget management, Microsoft Excel and operational reporting, and data-driven operational decision making
Strong operational leadership, planning and execution, problem solving and decision making, cost consciousness, people and contractor management, cross-functional coordination, performance management, communication and negotiation
Ability to work under pressure during peak harvesting season and strong field presence and hands-on management approach
