About the role
Shimizu Corporation is seeking an experienced Lead/Senior Hydrogeologist to join our team in the country of Vanuatu. We are preparing the civil infrastructure project. This is a unique opportunity to work on significant infrastructure and construction projects in Vanuatu, where you will apply your expertise in hydrogeological assessment and management. The role is pivotal in ensuring that our construction and project management initiatives are supported by comprehensive understanding of groundwater conditions, geological stability, and hydrological factors that impact project delivery and safety.
Key responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive hydrogeological surveys and assessments for construction and infrastructure projects in Vanuatu
Develop and implement groundwater monitoring programs and interpret hydrogeological data to inform project decision-making
Assess groundwater quality, aquifer characteristics, and potential contamination risks relevant to construction activities
Provide technical guidance on dewatering strategies, foundation design considerations, and geotechnical stability as it relates to groundwater conditions
Prepare detailed hydrogeological reports and present findings to project teams, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, local legislation, and international standards for hydrogeological assessments
Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and environmental specialists to integrate hydrogeological considerations into project planning and execution
Identify and mitigate hydrogeological risks that may impact construction timelines, budget, or safety
What we're looking for
Degree or equivalent in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline
Total work 15 years of professional experience
Minimum experience in relevant position as a Lead Hydrologist 10 years
Has the working experience in Pacific or SIDS (Island countries including Singapore)
Experience working in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in island nations or developing contexts
Substantial experience working on large-scale construction, infrastructure, or mining projects in tropical or challenging environments
Strong expertise in groundwater flow modelling, aquifer testing, and hydrogeological data interpretation
Proficiency in hydrogeological software and tools, including modelling packages and data analysis platforms
Excellent report writing and technical communication skills, with the ability to present complex hydrogeological concepts to diverse audiences
Knowledge of environmental regulations, water resources management, and compliance frameworks relevant to construction activities
Professional registration or certification as a hydrogeologist or geologist (such as CPGeo or equivalent) is preferred
Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
Strong project management capabilities and the ability to work independently whilst managing multiple concurrent investigations
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with experience supervising technical teams
Willingnes to work in the country of Vanuatu
