SMT SENIOR ENGINEER

About the role

We are seeking an SMT Senior Engineer to join PT. SP Manufacturing in Batam, Riau Islands. This position will offers an excellent opportunity to lead and oversee surface mount technology (SMT) operations and drive continuous improvement initiatives within our manufacturing facility. As a senior-level professional, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency and compliance across our SMT production lines. This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager and is integral to achieving our operational excellence objectives.

Key responsibilities

1. Oversee and manage all SMT assembly operations, including machine setup, programming, calibration and optimisation

2. Monitor production performance and implement corrective actions to meet quality, cost and delivery targets

3. Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis for equipment failures and process deviations

4. Lead equipment maintenance and preventative maintenance programmes to minimise downtime

5. Provide technical guidance and training to SMT operators and technicians

6. Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations and company policies

7. Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to develop and implement process improvements

8. Review and analyse production data to identify opportunities for efficiency gains and waste reduction

9. Support supplier evaluations and material qualification for SMT components and consumables

10. Contribute to capital equipment selection and evaluation for SMT line upgrades

Requirements

1. Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in SMT assembly operations or electronics manufacturing engineering

2. Extensive knowledge of SMT equipment including pick-and-place machines, solder reflow systems, automated optical inspection (AOI) and component handling systems

3. Strong understanding of PCB assembly processes, IPC standards and industry best practices

4. Proven experience in troubleshooting, equipment maintenance and process optimisation

5. Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation

6. Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities with the ability to manage technical teams

7. Knowledge of quality management systems, including ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949, Nadcap standards

8. Experience with production planning, scheduling and material flow management

9. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to details

10. Knowledge of soldering principles, flux chemistry, thermal profiling, and IPC standards or equivalent is preferred

11. Proficient in DOE, SPC, FMEA, and root cause analysis tools (8D/Fishbone/5 Whys)

12. Excellent in communication skills

13. Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams.

14. Lean Six Sigma certification is an advantage.

15. Experience in a contract manufacturing or electronics manufacturing environment is beneficial
