RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Irrigation System Operation:
- Operate and adjust the golf course's computerised irrigation control systems, ensuring consistent and appropriate water distribution across all course areas.
- Monitor weather conditions, soil moisture levels, and turf health to adjust irrigation schedules accordingly.
- Program irrigation systems to accommodate seasonal variations, special events, and maintenance activities.
Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform regular inspections of the irrigation system, including pumps, valves, sprinklers, and piping, to identify and address any issues.
- Conduct routine maintenance, such as cleaning filters, adjusting sprinkler heads, and repairing leaks or malfunctions.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure that irrigation repairs are carried out efficiently and with minimal disruption to course play.
Water Management:
- Implement water conservation practices and strategies to reduce waste and ensure efficient use of water resources.
- Maintain accurate records of water usage, system performance, and any adjustments made to irrigation schedules.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
- Identify and diagnose issues within the irrigation system, such as pressure problems, electrical faults, or equipment failures.
- Utilise technical knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve problems quickly, ensuring minimal impact on the course's condition.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the (HGCS) and the Assistant to coordinate irrigation activities with other maintenance tasks.
- Provide input and feedback on irrigation needs and improvements to the Agronomy Team.
- Communicate effectively with other team members to ensure a clear understanding of irrigation schedules and priorities.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations when handling irrigation equipment and chemicals.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to water usage and chemical applications.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in irrigation management or related field is preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in irrigation system management, preferably in a golf course or similar environment.
- Proficiency in operating computerised irrigation control systems; strong understanding of turf management and water conservation practices; basic plumbing and electrical repair skills.
