CORE PURPOSE:
To support the delivery and development of the BSJ tennis programme within both the activities and competitive sports programmes in line with the mission and vision of the School.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Essential:
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in any relevant disciplines.
Have a minimum of 3 years working experience as a tennis coach.
Have experience in different coaching environments when delivering sessions and working with players from varying backgrounds, cultures, and levels.
Have knowledge of coaching and developing young players aged 3-18.
Be organised in planning, preparation, and delivery of coaching sessions.
Ability to demonstrate competency in planning and reviewing sessions and presenting to players on and off the court.
Have strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively liaise with various levels of stakeholders, such as students, local staff, management, and parents.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students and/or parents in individual, group, and team environments.
Ability to coach players in both group and individual settings across different stages of development.
Possess good written and spoken English language proficiency.
Possess good computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Apple Office software).
Have flexibility to work or travel outside working hours when required.
Desirable:
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in sport related disciplines/degrees or Physical Education.
Professional tennis coaching qualification or working towards a recognised coaching certification.
Further sports industry qualifications.
Experience as a tennis coach working with young children aged 3-18 in an international school or international programme, implementing red, orange, green ball stages across a range of skill levels.
Have experience in working with adults.
Have experience working without translators in delivery of sessions.
Have experience in working with ITF and National players.
Understanding player pathways in tennis development.
Ability to conduct self-review sessions with individual players.
Ability to plan and adapt sessions to suit the group needs.
Understanding how to evaluate and review programmes on completion.
General understanding of working in an international school setting.
Ability to understand and implement the BSJ Tennis methodology and player development pathway.
Ability to challenge and support the learning and development of players.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
This position’s duties and responsibilities, but are not exclusive to are as the following:
Support the delivery of a high-quality tennis programme and act as a positive role model for students.
Assist in maintaining high standards of coaching within the tennis programme.
Support communication with students and parents regarding participation in tennis activities and competitions.
Deliver recreational and competitive tennis sessions within the school’s activities and sports programmes.
Support the implementation of the tennis programme throughout the school year.
Work at weekends, before and after school in delivering training sessions as agreed with the Assistant Head of Athletics and Activities.
Support programme enrolments, registrations and administration as required.
Assist in school team training sessions throughout each school term.
Encourage high levels of participation, commitment and punctuality from students.
Support new students joining the tennis programme and assist with transitions as required.
Assist in maintaining a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.
Deliver high-quality tennis coaching under the guidance of the Assistant Head of Athletics and Activities.
Deliver sessions aligned with the BSJ Tennis Methodology and player development pathway.
Plan and conduct daily coaching sessions for assigned athletes and groups
Support athlete development in technical, tactical and physical aspects of tennis.
Motivate, train and guide athletes to achieve their individual goals and reach their potential.
Monitor attendance and engagement of athletes during training sessions and competitions.
Provide quality coaching services to athletes enrolled in the tennis programme.
Promote appropriate behaviour, discipline and sportsmanship during practices, competitions and school activities.
Support the teaching of tennis within the curriculum as directed by the Head Tennis Coach.
Assist the Head Tennis Coach with cover arrangements for absent staff teaching tennis where required.
Monitor and track player progress through competitions within the BSJ Tennis calendar.
Assist with the organisation and preparation of competitions and events.
Support athlete preparation and participation in competitions.
Assist with competition logistics, equipment preparation and event administration.
Contribute to the successful delivery of tennis events throughout the year.
Assist with the administration of tennis programmes, bookings and registrations.
Support communication regarding the tennis programme through letters, emails, the school website and the BSJ Bulletin.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, training and competition performance.
Ensure effective communication between coaches, parents and the school regarding programme activities.
Attend coaches’ meetings and contribute to programme discussions and development.
Create a positive and accountable work environment which promotes equality and encourages diversity.
Assist with the supervision of training sessions and athletes as required.
Support meetings with athletes and parents regarding progress and development where appropriate.
