Job Summary:
MaineGeneral Health is seeking an experienced Oncology Data Specialist to support the collection, analysis, and reporting of cancer data that drives quality patient care, accreditation, clinical research, and organizational decision-making. In this role, you'll play a vital part in maintaining the integrity of our cancer registry while ensuring compliance with state and national reporting standards.This is a fully remote position. Preference will be given to candidates residing in Maine or the New England region who can participate in occasional in-person team meetings, professional development opportunities, and collaborative events throughout the year.

Job Description:
What You'll Do
- Identify, analyze, and maintain accurate data related to the history, diagnosis, treatment, disease status, and survival outcomes of cancer patients treated throughout the organization.
- Abstract medical records in accordance with national cancer registry standards, ensuring complete, timely, and accurate documentation.
- Prepare statistical reports and analyses related to incidence, treatment outcomes, mortality, demographic trends, and other cancer program quality metrics.
- Collect, validate, and report data to support protocol studies, patient care evaluations, quality improvement initiatives, committee activities, and multidisciplinary cancer conferences.
- Assist clinical departments with quality audits, data validation, reporting requests, and registry-related initiatives.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of all required reports, including National Cancer Database (NCDB), State Cancer Registry, and American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer reporting requirements.
- Serve as a subject matter resource regarding cancer registry standards, department policies, reporting requirements, and oncology data best practices.
- Maintain the highest standards of data integrity, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance while supporting continuous improvement across the cancer program.
What You'll Bring
- Certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C) is required.
- Three to five years of experience in oncology data abstraction, cancer registry, health information management, or a related healthcare data role preferred.
- Experience with NeuralFrame by KACI, EMR's: SCM, Touchworks, Aria, Meditech, EPIC, and HealthInfoNet preferred.
- Strong knowledge of oncology terminology, cancer staging methodologies, treatment modalities, and national cancer registry standards.
- Experience submitting data to state and national cancer registries, including compliance with American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer and National Cancer Database (NCDB) reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and reporting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across clinical and administrative teams.
