JUNIOR SOMMELIER

About the role

Daimyo Bali is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Junior Sommelier to join our beverage team in Seminyak, Bali. This is a contract position that offers an exciting opportunity to develop your expertise in wine and beverage service within a dynamic hospitality environment. You will work alongside experienced sommeliers and hospitality professionals, gaining valuable experience in wine selection, pairing recommendations, and exceptional customer service. This role is essential to enhancing our guests' dining experience and contributing to the reputation of Daimyo Bali as a premier destination.

Key responsibilities

1. Assist in the selection, storage, and organisation of wine and beverage inventory, maintaining optimal conditions for all stock

2. Provide knowledgeable wine and beverage recommendations to guests, offering expertly crafted suggestions that complement their meal choices

3. Execute proper wine service techniques, including opening, decanting, and serving wines at appropriate temperatures

4. Support the head sommelier in curating wine pairings for tasting menus and special events

5. Maintain detailed knowledge of the wine list, including regions, varietals, producers, and tasting notes

6. Train and mentor service staff on wine basics and recommend appropriate beverages to guests

7. Manage the wine cellar, monitoring stock levels and assisting with inventory control and ordering

8. Develop relationships with wine distributors and suppliers to source quality selections

9. Contribute to special beverage events, wine tastings, and promotional activities

10. Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness and organisation in beverage service areas

What we're looking for

1. Formal sommelier training or certification (WSET Level 1 or equivalent is preferred; Level 2 is advantageous)

2. Strong foundational knowledge of wine regions, grape varietals, and flavour profiles across the major wine-producing countries

3. Excellent customer service skills with a passion for hospitality and guest satisfaction

4. Ability to communicate complex wine information in an accessible and engaging manner

5. Previous experience in a hospitality setting, preferably in wine service or a similar beverage role

6. Attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards of presentation and service

7. Team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure

8. Genuine enthusiasm for wine and continuous learning within the beverage industry

9. Fluency in English; additional language skills are advantageous

10. Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle wine bottles and service equipment
